Being a military spouse can only mean one thing at this time of year....it's moving time. My husband has been stationed in North Carolina, so Sissy's Sweets will be on an almost-permanent hiatus. (With hopes that we retire in the Milton area...one day!)
It's not goodbye though, my good friend Kim and I are joining forces in North Carolina and have opened our home based business, FROSTED CAKERY LLC. Please feel free to keep up with us and see what all we have going on. Visit out webpage HERE. You can also find us on facebook and twitter @FrostedSB.
Milton it has been a privilege to bake for you. Thanks for 3 great years and hopefully one day we'll make it back in town.

Today my sweet baby girl turns one! We had her owl themed party this past Saturday.
Her cake was chocolate with buttercream frosting covered in MMF. The bottom tier of ombre "feathers" took me 6 hours to do! I used a leaf cutter and my gumpaste tools to turn them into feathers. All the rolling, cutting, and shaping took a while! The top tier is hand-painted.

After my last cake, I took a much needed "break" from baking. I love it, don't get me wrong, but my life got a little crazy. My baby girl is becoming more and more active. I had to strategically bake while she was napping and/or stay up all night while everyone else in my house slept. I always get my best work done in the peace and quiet. Also, we run a real estate investment business on the side, so that keeps me busy as well.
Anyway, my next cake was for my son's 7th birthday. He loves the PBS show "Wild Kratts"and wanted a themed party to go along with the show. I had to get creative on this one. So I went with Animal print tiers and a "creature power disc" as a topper. I think it turned out pretty well.
Zebra layer: MMF
Leopard print: hand-painted

These giant cakes are high in demand lately. This full sheet was for HT-18's change of command ceremony.
(The thing I hate about the giant cakes: it's hard to center the writing)
I saved myself several hours on this cake and went with an edible image for the logo instead of royal icing like last time)
